A policeman who was charged with receiving stolen property was granted $300,000 bail in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Corporal Michail Ebanks, who is attached to the St Catherine North Police division, was charged with the offence after a ruling from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Ebanks' appearance in court arose from an incident where stolen car doors were seen on display in a store.

In applying for bail, Attorney-at-Law Zavia Mayne told the court his client denied the allegations.

"Your honour, he has a steady place of abode and will honour his bail conditions, " Mayne said.

Bail was offered in the sum of $300,000, with a surety, on condition he reports to the Point Hill police and reappears on May 22.

The court heard that on May 2, the complainant went to purchase auto parts on Old Harbour Road. Upon entering the business place, he spotted three car doors that was previously on a vehicle he owned.

This vehicle was stolen in March 2011, the court learnt.

The complainant was told by the attendant that it was the policeman who had given him the doors. He left the store, made a report to the police and the man who told him how he got the doors was charged. The accused was summoned to the Spanish Town police station and taken into custody.

A file was submitted to the offices of the DPP for a ruling, which was handed down on Tuesday.

Ebanks pleaded not guilty when he appeared.
