God's grace sustained me

GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

Twelve years ago Milton Sergeant realised that he needed to surrender his life to the Lord. This took place while he was in attendance at a convention at Halifax in the parish of Manchester.

"I listened to the message and as a young man it really appealed to me; and growing up in a Christian home, then, I was Christian-oriented, which made it easier for me to surrender my life to the Lord," said Sergeant.

He told THE STAR that after he surrendered his life to the Lord and started to walk his Christian journey, he was given a short period of time to return to a life of sin.

"Many persons, especially my friends, said to me that they were giving me two weeks to return to a life of sin. However, that was what helped to strengthen me and motivate me; and I was determined, basically, to prove them wrong; and God's grace sustained me from that time until now," said Sergeant.

He said there have been occasions when he felt like turning his back on God, especially when cornered by challenges and circumstances, but after reading through the scriptures and, especially in the book of James, and looked on the experience of Joseph when others conspired to kill him; but God was able to see him through, thus he too has been able to overcome.

He confessed that he is enjoying every moment of his Christian walk with God and stressed that a life with Christ is what really keeps him going. He added that due to his walk with the Lord he has developed a level of confidence that has assisted him in doing the things that are required of him, due to his faith in God.
