Corned beef thief granted bail
Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

A man who reportedly stole six tins of corned beef was granted $100,000 bail when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

He is Kevin Phipps, 22-year-old labourer of Old Harbour, St Catherine.

When Phipps appeared before Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green, he pleaded not guilty to simple larceny.

A successful bail application was made, which was granted on condition he report to the Old Harbour police on Thursdays.

Allegations before the court are that, on April 28, the accused was working at a supermarket in Spanish Town. He picked up six tins of Grace corned beef valued at $1,440. The accused placed two in his pocket and others under his clothing and left the supermarket.

He was subsequently charged by constable Paul Banbury of the Spanish Town police station.

He is to reappear on July 18.
