Accused thief fined $8,000
A man who was found guilty of stealing and damaging another man's motorcycle was sentenced in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

He is Kemar Barriffe, who has been charged with offensive weapon and malicious destruction of property.

Barriffe was fined $3,000 or 10 days in prison for the offensive weapon and $5,000 or 10 days in prison for malicious destruction of property.

In addition, he was sentenced to six months' imprisonment at hard labour for larceny of motor vehicle.

It is reported that on the day in question, the accused went to a supermarket where the complainant's motorcycle was parked and used a knife to cut the cables on the bike.

The court heard that when the complainant got out of the supermarket, he was just in time to see the accused riding off with on his bike.

It is reported that the complainant raised an alarm and the accused was chased, cornered and handed over to the police.

The motorcycle was reportedly recovered.
