Men on ganja charge get $200,000 bail |
Two men who were held with a quantity of ganja were granted $200,000 bail yesterday in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court.
Charged with possession of, and dealing in ganja are Andel Thompson and Roshane Rhooms both labourers of Fairfield Road, Spanish Town, St Catherine. When both men appeared before Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green they pleaded not guilty. Attorney-at-Law Earl Hamilton told the court that his clients are not guilty of having the drug as they lived in a tenement yard. He told the court that there are about 10 houses in the yard and anyone could have put the drug in the abandoned house. Bail was granted on condition that the accused men return to court on July 31. Allegations are that on April 28, the police went to an address along Fairfield Road. As members of the team entered a house, Thompson was seen cutting up vegetable matter resembling ganja. Rhooms was also found in the house. Both men were subsequently arrested and charged. - R.T. |
