Little Richie and Rich Squad take it higher |

Each week for the month of May, THE STAR will feature one of four of the island's top selectors for our Star of the month feature. This week, we feature Little Richie.
After moving to Kingston and working as a selector on Swatch International, Little Richie finally got the opportunity to go solo in 2006. He wasted no time forging ahead with his own musical team of selectors. Little Richie, whose correct name is Richard Campbell, says his decision to form the Rich Squad was a business move. "Music is a business, so I have to look on it that way. I want to know that when I am 45 and no longer a selector, I can look back and say this was my contribution to the industry, getting more youths involved and letting them carry on the music," he said. There are currently six members in the Rich Squad, including Little Richie, namely, DJ Izzle, Two Food, Ikel Marevelous, Ragon, and DJ Parro. He says the group has been doing extremely well and has been consistently increasing its local and international visibility. He cited last year's Guinness Sounds of Greatness as an example. "The Rich Squad definitely tek it to them last year on the Guinness Sounds of Greatness. Some people who might not have known about Rich Squad before got to see our talent, because it was on TV, and those who knew us before got to see us again. So Sounds of Greatness definitely help to blow us up even more," he said. He continued, "Right now, Rich Squad is all about taking it to another level again. This time, we are in the streets with the Greatness in the Streets promotion and going around the island, so that's a great opportunity. So everybody, just look out for Rich Squad taking it to higher heights this year." |
