Rasbert Turner, Star Writer
Police investigators in St Catherine are still searching for the driver of a motor truck which plunged into the Rio Cobre yesterday. The driver of the vehicle, which was retrieved from the murky waters of the river, was still not found after it was drawn to safety. However, attempts to fish it from the river led to a roadblock as the tow truck battled to bring the vehicle to shore. The roadblock caused a pile-up of traffic stretching for miles. "We are still searching for the driver of the vehicle who we understand has suffered minor injuries," a policeman on the scene said. The vehicle was discovered about noon yesterday by residents along the Bog Walk gorge in St Catherine. It is said that the vehicle which was heading from the Bog Walk direction towards Spanish Town ended its journey prematurely in the river. "Bwoy it look like the driver swam to safety. However, the roadblock now and we need to move, " Michael Thompson a motorist said. Meanwhile, Sergeant Osbourne Fearon of the St Catherine Traffic Department said motorists traversing the Bog Walk gorge should exercise caution. He said this would help to minimise vehicular accidents along the corridor. The vehicle was eventually removed from the river and the road cleared after a few hours. |
