Jamaica's celebrated Usain Bolt reacts to adoring fans after clocking a world-leading time of of 9.82 seconds in the 100-metre race at the JN Jamaica National Invitational Track meet at the National Stadium on Saturday. He had the huge crowd cheering thunderously as he sped to the finish line. - Ian Allen World's fastest man Usain Bolt admits to being pleased with his first 100m outing of the season, but admitted there was a lot of work to be done, ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The double world record holder clocked an easy-looking 9.82 at Saturday's JN Jamaica International Invitational meet, pulling away from the field to clock a World-leading time in the event. Michael Frater ran well for second in 10.00 seconds, while Commonwealth and Senior Pan Games champion Lerone Clarke was third in 10.03 seconds. nice run "This is a good start for me as I was not able to compete this time last year. To come and give the crowd a nice run makes me happy. I am looking forward to the remainder of the season," Bolt said. However, it was not all smooth sailing for the sprinter as the race was called back twice, one for a technical issue and the second occasion saw Trinidadian sprinter Richard Thompson disqualified. nerve-racking Thompson did eventually compete in the event under protest. Bearing in mind what happened to Bolt at last year's World Champion-ships in Daegu, where he lost his title to Yohan Blake after false starting in the 100m final, it could have been a nerve- racking experience. The athlete, however, insisted he was not affected by the incidents. "No I did not let that affect me as I learnt from that incident, which helped me to remain focus while this was going on around me," he said. Bolt's training partner Yohan Blake also posted a World-leading time over 200m. Blake's former teammate at St Jago High, Nickel Ashmeade, who posted a record run of 19.98 seconds at the meet last year, made a gallant run but was no match for Blake who went out very fast to sprint to a time of 19.91 seconds. Ashmeade finished second in 20.09, while the ever-improving Warren Weir ran brilliantly for third in 20.21 seconds. |
