Police investigators say they are close to making an arrest in an extortion case in which sexually explicit pictures and videos of several Jamaican women were posted on the Internet. Senior Superintendent Fitz Bailey, who heads the Organised Crime Investigation Division (OCID), declined to give details yesterday but said the police are following "very strong leads". "In short order, we will come back to the media in respect of that matter," Bailey told journalists during a press conference at the Police Officers' Club in St Andrew. He said 13 women have so far come forward and reported that they were contacted by persons behind the website who made "certain demands" to have their pictures and videos removed. Recording artiste Denique is among several women who say their telephones were hacked and their images removed and posted online. The website has since been shutdown. Bailey said the persons behind the website can be charged with breaches of the Anti-Piracy Act and extortion for making demands to have the images removed from the website. |
