Wannabe don shot dead

A war over who should be the don of an area in Craig Town, Kingston, resulted in the killing of one man and the injuring of another on Wednesday night , THE WEEKEND STAR has learnt.

Residents are now fearing the worst after 23-year-old Lamar 'Alo' Nelson from Paisley Road in the Kingston community was attacked and sprayed with bullet, in what they say is an ongoing power struggle among 'friends' wanting to control turf.

While police confirmed Nelson's killing, they were unable to give a motive saying their investigations have not turned up anything as yet. It is reported that residents of Clarence Lane heard explosions shortly after 10 p.m. and summoned the police.

Police quickly arrived to find Nelson lying in a gully with several guinshot wounds. The injured man was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries. The police were unable to confirm that another man had been shot in the incident.

But residents told THE WEEKEND STAR that Nelson and another man, known as 'Tappa Reds', were allegedly shot up and left for dead. Tappa Reds apparently escaped before the cops arrived.

Another member of the community told our news team that he was only made aware of the murder on Thursday morning when he woke up and heard others talking about it.

He said, "Well you know say I never hear the gunshot dem still, maybe because some music was playing close to where I conduct my business".

He continued, "Mi know di yute still and is a cool yute to me, he's not from this side but him in and out of this area more while ... him did more pan di gangster side of things still, so I don't know wah really gwan".

When our news team contacted the Admiral Town police, an officer confirmed Nelson's murder and advised THE WEEKEND STAR to speak with the Denham Town CIB on the matter as he was unable to say how many people got shot.

When contacted, a source from the Denham Town police expressed, "No suspect(s) have been taken into custody. Investigations are ongoing and the relevant authorities would be notified on the proceedings at a suitable time".
