Future star finds net for Arnett

Arnett Gardens' rebuilding project seems to be on track as one of their 'future stars' came off the bench to score twice in the 'Junglists' 2-0 win over the relegated Reno on Sunday in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Andrew Allen, a Charlie Smith schoolboy, opened the scoring and his Premier League account with a well-taken strike in the 65th minute after replacing Vanado Manning and doubled both in the 88th minute when he fired home the rebound from his own penalty miss. The victory marked Arnett Gardens' third consecutive victory in the fourth round of the competition and pushed them up to seventh spot with 51 points.

Game plan

"The game plan coming into this game was to win. In fact, we set ourselves the target of winning all five games in this round and we are on track to doing that," a pleased Davis said.

"As you can see right now the aim is rebuilding Arnett Gardens and giving the youngsters game after game towards the end of the season and they have been doing well," Davis said adding that the youngsters are good especially in midfield but that a number of good forwards and defenders will have to be found.

While he did not lead his team to a victory, Linval Wilson, assistant coach of Reno Football Club, was pleased with the performance of his players.

"I am proud of them and I think we did well," Wilson said of the youthful players who lined up for Reno against Arnett Gardens.

"These (young) players understand where the club is coming from. I think we really should have gone to the younger players earlier. We should have brought them to the forefront earlier as you can see from their display today.

"They came out and fought. They gave a gutsy performance. It should not have been 2-0 based on how we played. We should have given an account of ourselves by scoring a goal," added Wilson.
