IT has been a great season so far for the Michael Dyke-coached Edwin Allen High female track team and come this weekend more success is in store for the team from Frankfield, Clarendon, as they look set to dominate the Penn Relays and could come away with three wins, with the 4x100 metres being one of them.

After winning back-to-back titles in 2007 and 2008, they will be seeking their third victory in the event and join Camperdown High School on three victories. Vere Technical (15) and St Jago High (4) are the top Jamaican teams in this event at the Penn Relays.

With their Class One girls winning in 45.28 seconds at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Championships, Edwin Allen are definitely the team to watch at the Penn Relays. Edwin Allen could add Class Two star Christania Williams to their sprint relay squad but her participation is doubtful.

Williams, the fastest local schoolgirl, was injured at Champs and missed the Carifta Games.

"It is a 50-50 chance that she will compete in the event at Penns but even without her we are still pretty confident that we can win the event as we have a quality pool of girls to choose from," said coach Dyke.

formidable quartet

At the UTech Classics, the Edwin Allen quartet, running in conditions they are likely to face at the Penn Relays, clocked an easy 45.86 seconds to win Herbert Morrison Technical (46.37). With the likes of Claudette Allen, Saqukine Cameron, Shawnette Allen and Paula Pinnock it is still a formidable quartet and they are expected to slam their rivals.

Vere who clocked 45.63 to win Class One at the Gibson Relays will be weakened here as usual anchor leg runner Shericka Jackson will be absent after using up her four years of eligibility at the Penn Relays. All season she has had to make up a lot of ground to put her team in contention and her absence will hurt Vere's winning chances.

Penn Relays has not been kind to Holmwood. Last year they were one of the favourites but dropped the baton in the preliminaries and failed to make the final. They will be hoping that their young quartet in Class Two, led by sprint hurdler Yanique Thompson, will improve on their Champs winning time of 45.70 seconds and give them their third victory in the event following wins in 2006 and 2010.
