Holmwood vs KC again

The recent 4x800 metres rivalry between the boys from Kingston College and Holm-wood Technical is expected to continue at this year's Penn Relays.

"Once again I expect my team and Kingston College to have another close finish as both teams have been the best so far in the event and both should represent Jamaica against the top American school boys and girls out of New York," Edward Hector, coach of Holmwood, said at the weekend.

He added: "We respect the chances of boys and girls who have done 7:51.83 indoors at the Millrose Games in January."

close race

At the Milo Western Relays in February, it was Kingston College who drew first blood as in a very close race they got the better of their opponents by a whisker as they won in 7:43.84 with Holmwood second in 7:43.87.

At the Gibson Relays both teams were at it once again before it took the experienced Andre Housey on the anchor leg to show his class and get his team home in 7:43.01 ahead of Kingston College in 7:45.15. Holmwood's time is the fastest by a high school going into the Penn Relays and both Housey and ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Championships Class One 800 metres silver medallist Danielle Richards will be hoping to get the better of their opponent and take home the big prize.

tactical error

Despite their loss at the Gibson Relays, Kingston College will be confident they can turn the tables on their rivals. The Kingston College camp strongly believes that they only lost at Gibson due to a tactical error and once again they will be relying heavily on two former Holmwood Tech-nical 800m runners, Sanjay Powell and Alex Saunders, to take them to victory. The race is expected to be another thriller but Kingston College will start favourites to land the title.
