Residents of Spaulding Gardens, Central Village, St Catherine said for more than 20 years they have been badly affected by flood water which continue to damage their properties.

"Each time I see the rain threatening to fall, I have to start buying rope to tie up what is left. This because for the last 23 years the water keeps flooding the road and also houses down here," a resident of the community said.

The residents showed THE WEEKEND STAR the source of their problem, a drain that leads the water from the main road into the community, where it settles and becomes stagnant.

"In addition to the flooding, it also causes a mosquito infestation which affects the elderly and the children dem. Sometime you cooking and you can't hold your breath due to how stink the water is,'' Janice Powell, another resident, said.

Meanwhile the affected residents said they have tried everything, are fed up with the situation and are, therefore, asking that the matter be dealt with.

Meanwhile, Councillor Donovan Guy said representation will be made on the residents behalf at the St Catherine Parish Council's Infrastructure Committee meeting.
