A man who reportedly used a glass bottle to beat a complainant in her head and face repeatedly was ordered to pay $20,000 or serve six months' imprisonment in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. He is Calvin Orr charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and was told to give his fingerprints to the police. The court heard that on the day of the incident, the complainant and Orr had a dispute in which he used a glass bottle to inflict wounds to the head and face of the woman. However, Orr told Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey that it was the complainant who confronted him which caused him to drape her and resulted in him boxing her. When asked how he pleaded to the offence brought against him, he pleaded not guilty. The medical report in the matter, however, proved on the contrary to what Orr had said and he was then told by the Senior RM to pay the fine. |
