Hasani Walters, STAR Writer With the aim of providing 50 scholarships for students at the HEART Trust/NTA's Rockfort Vocational Training Centre, Lawless Events is staging its bimonthly charity event, Magnum Ambition Saturdaze. The series of 10 themed events which began on April 7, is held at Bourbon House, 133 Windward Road, and will run until September 1 when Lawless Events hopes to bring additional sponsors on board to stage a fun day/treat for children where they will receive back-to-school supplies. "The event was born out of the need to carry out the philanthropic work of Lawless Events. I personally have been known to give back, and this is also the community that I grew up in," Lawless Events head Marvin Lawrence told THE WEEKEND STAR. With the event falling beyond the realm of normal events such as Marco Polo and Summer Bar-Raage that Lawless Events is known for, Lawrence said it is just the proverbial philanthropic arm of the group extending once more as they "are known for giving back". He noted that, in March 2010, Lawless Kids helped the YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association) with the hosting of Velocity. As of this Saturday, the event will be free with the organisers hoping to raise funds from bar sales. Lawrence shared that the community is happy that they are carrying out this effort as he said, "The reaction and reception of the event has been pretty good. People are happy that we decided to come back to the area and do this, and it comes at a very good time in the back-to-school period." Ambition Saturdaze is slated to go until 2 a.m., this week's theme being the 'Colours Edition'. Members of the Lawless Events group include Marvin Lawrence, Adrian Williams, Fabian O'Hara and Kishan Brown. |
