"Creative, different, dancehall and R&B fused" is how upcoming artiste Kevaughn Bryan describes his style of music. Kevy B, as he is now called, says he got into music at a very young age. "I've been doing music since I was about three years old. I really got started at Vaz Prep when I sang on the choir, but it was not until I was about 10 that I took it seriously. After I started Calabar High School, I started playing the piano and within a year, I was playing it by ear." Kevy B also credits his musical style to his influences: "Stephen McGregor, Chris Brown, Ryan Leslie and Marques Houston have all influenced me over the years," and like many of his influences, Kevy B has already formed his own record label Kevstar Records. "It was founded in 2010 and I did this because people only saw me as an artiste and I'm also a producer, so I felt it was appropriate to start a label. Right now, I'm working with some young artistes like Runkus and J Capri who is the first lady of Russian's Head Concussion label," he revealed. Currently promoting his single Times Have Changed, Kevy B says he was inspired to do this song after going through a break-up. He describes it as a song that everyone can relate to. Kevy B is also adamant that there is a place for him in the industry. "Dancehall has revolutionised. It's now a mix of hip hop, techno; it's more island pop and that's my style of music," he said. Kevy B is currently working on his yet-to-be-named mixtape which will be released later this year. In the meantime, he says fans can look out for more music as summer approaches: 'I'm working on a medley for young artistes. I plan to produce and shoot a video over the summer," he said. |
