RAYMOND GRAHAM, Star Writer

MICO University College crowned themselves Intercol 50 Overs cricket champions yesterday, at the UWI Mona Bowl, as they defeated G.C. Foster College by four wickets in the final.

The match, which was reduced to 45 overs, saw G.C. Foster College making 210 for eight, and Mico asked to score 229 runs off the Duckworth Lewis calculations. Mico easily scored the runs as they raced to 229 for six off 39 overs.

After defeating their opponents twice this season, in two Twenty20 finals, it was a confident G.C. Foster team who came into the game. Sent in to bat after losing the toss, G.C. Foster were in trouble early as they lost Pete Salmon for none, and the inform Orane Williams for nine, to the bowling of pacer Jason Dawes.

stability

Derval Green and Jamie Trenchfield brought some stability to the G.C. Foster's innings, as they put on 107 runs for the third-wicket partnership, taking the score to 118 before Green was bowled by spinner Fredrick Hermit for 45. Fourteen runs later, Trenchfield went caught and bowled off the bowling of Marlon Johnson, for a top score of 59. In the latter part of the innings, Kemar Foster made 45, as they finished on 210 for eight. Dawes, two for 26, Hermit, two for 23, and Shacoya Thomas, two for 31, took the most wickets for Mico.

Chasing a revised total of 229, based on the Duckworth Lewis, Mico lost two wickets for 38. However, Nkrumah Bonner along with Zeneiffe Fowler controlled the tempo for Mico as they put on 115 runs for the third wicket.
