Cops freed in Gun Court |

BARBARA GAYLE, Staff Reporter Two policemen who were accused of robbing and assaulting a civilian over a ganja dispute have been freed. Constables Damion Skyers and Donovan Williams were freed yesterday in the Gun Court after the complainant told the court that because he was upset, he told lies on the policemen. The Crown then offered no evidence against the policemen. They were represented by attorney-at-law Peter Champagnie. It was alleged that on September 16 last year, the cops went to a business place in downtown Kingston to see the complainant over money allegedly owing to them for ganja sales. The complainant had reported that Skyers used his firearm to hit him while Williams stole goods from the shop. Skyers and Williams, who were assigned to the sentry at Jamaica House, were later charged with robbery with aggravation, illegal possession of firearm and assault. After the complainant made the disclosure in court, Justice Jennifer Straw warned him that he could be charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice. |
