Braeton resident's ammunition case transferred

The case involving a Portmore man, who the police claim had 19 rounds of ammunition hidden on a bicycle, has been transferred to the Corporate Area Gun Court.

Charged with illegal possession of ammunition is Kemar Perry of Braeton. When the case was mentioned, Perry pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Defence attorney Sylvester Morris told the court his client had no knowledge of the offence and that the Crown would find it difficult to prove its case. The lawyer told the court his client was held elsewhere and brought back to where the rounds were reportedly found.

Clerk of Courts Nicola Rowe admitted that the police need to establish if during the time of chasing the accused, he was constantly in their sight. A further statement was requested from the police for this purpose.

Allegations are that on March 4, a police party was on patrol in Braeton. Upon reaching a section of the road, the accused was seen. He reportedly jumped from a bicycle and started to run. He was chased by the police to a neighbouring community where he was held.

After he was reportedly brought back to the scene, the police searched a black bag tied to the bicycle. Nineteen .22 rounds were found inside. Perry was subsequently charged.
