Never too old to surrender to the Lord

George Henry - Sunday-school teacher 78-year-old Eda Freeman

GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

Sunday school teacher Eda Freeman, 78, had the fear of the Lord from she was a youngster but did not surrender her life to her Maker until 19 years ago. Now a member of the Sanguinetti New Testament Church of God in Clarendon, she finds time to assist in building the Kingdom of God for as long as she has strength.

"I was a sinner; but I always had the fear of the Lord, although I was not living as a child of God. I knew a lot about the Lord before I gave my heart to Him and I used to keep His word despite my not being a born-again Christian," confessed the senior Sunday school teacher.

She noted that when she was young she usually attend dances and parties, but confessed that it has been more than 50 years since she last visited such places of amusement.

"I appreciate the dance that I am now doing in the church; I am happy with this dance, because I do not have to encounter the different kinds of people where I used to dance; I just meet my church brethren and we all can worship and give God praise together. I am very happy to be a child of God," said Freeman.

personal friend

Although being a Christian has its challenges, Freeman said with God in the vessel she is able to smile at every storm. She noted that there are times when she has to cry to God for help, and she is certain that He is always there to help her.

"I am glad that I have somebody in the form of the Lord there all the time to help me. Not my children or anyone else; but I have a personal friend in Jesus who I can talk to, and He always understands," said the churchwoman.

Sister Freeman, as she is affectionately called, has been a Sunday school teacher since 1994. She confessed that she loves that work with a passion and that she loves to teach the little children the word of God. She added that she loves children, and when she was appointed to teach the very young ones she did not hesitate.

very important

Freeman added that she has been doing what Christ asks in the Bible, to suffer the little children to come unto Him (Christ). The Sunday school teacher said she likes talking to children, as she always finds time to encourage them about the way of the Lord.

"Although there are times when they give me a lot of trouble I do not mind, because having children, you know what they are all about," explained Freeman.

She believes that it is very important that children attend Sunday school. This is so because she thinks youth is the best time to serve the Lord. She added that whenever children are taught about God from they are young, when they get older, should they stray they will get back to God, because the foundation of God would have already been laid in their life; and so they will eventually get back to the Lord, based on what they learnt in Sunday-school classes.

"It is what I learnt in Sunday school during my young years that are helping me even to this day; because the Lord should always be at the forefront of our lives. It is for that reason why I was able to surrender my life to the Lord at the time I did, because the foundation was laid and the teachings have always been with me," said the Sunday school teacher.

Freeman, who loves to sing, said her favourite song is, 'I must have the Saviour with me'. Her favourite Bible passage is Psalms 25.
