Prince Rohan to outstay 'em |

Jimme, Star Racing Writer PRINCE ROHAN hasn't been ripping the exercise track in the mornings like his stablemate TECHNOMOTO, but gets the ideal distance to outstay the field in tomorrow's 1820-metre Calvin O'Sullivan Memorial. TECHNOMOTO, who bolted at the start for a 1200-metre event on March 24, has been blazing the exercise track and is the morning-line favourite with champion jockey and stable rider Dick Cardenas opting for the speedy colt who won last year's Jamaica Derby by 10 lengths. However, TECHNOMOTO has failed in five subsequent starts to reproduce that form on the circuit course, albeit against quality opposition such as COMMANDING CHIEF and MARK MY WORD. He has been leading races but is easily caught by rivals before reaching the home turn, barring last year's Governor General's Stakes in which he straightened the marginal leader before RAISE A RUCKUS pounced. Cardenas is bound to try making all with the four-year-old colt tomorrow. However, rating TECHNOMOTO to get the distance won't be easy. A rejuvenated TRIAL LAWYER, in-form REGAL SENSATION and HOMBRE will ensure the speedster is kept honest for every yard he runs down the backstretch. HOMBRE, especially, might be far from the force he was up to last season but enjoys the distance and will be eyeballing TECHNOMOTO from the word go. However, neither will be finishing as fast as PRINCE ROHAN, who trainer Anthony Nunes used for the past month to prepare UNCLE DONNY for Monday's victory in the 2000 Guineas. Never mind the 1:03.2 PRINCE ROHAN clocked for five furlongs round on Sunday. He blasted 1:13.1 out of the chute with the 2000 Guineas winner last week Tuesday, finishing only a length off the improving grey colt in that gallop. TECHNOMOTO hasn't raced in more than three and a half months since finishing down the track in the Boxing Day Harry Jackson Memorial whereas PRINCE ROHAN has had four outings since. He has been running tough races including a storming second-place finish behind DON GEORGE at 1800 metres on March 17 - a race in which TECHNOMOTO could have very well been nominated instead of being put in a 1200-metre event a week later. When the pair met last August at 1820 metres, PRINCE ROHAN had finished 10 lengths second behind COMMANDING CHIEF with HOMBRE third and TECHNOMOTO fourth, beaten by 13 lengths. The jockeys were the same then, Cardenas aboard TECHNOMOTO and Aaron Chatrie astride PRINCE ROHAN. Reporting seven pounds lighter than TECHNOMOTO will also be a big plus for PRINCE ROHAN when he starts what should be his winning run from the three pole. REGAL SENSATION is fit and raring to go again after Monday's victory over COLD GROUND at the distance. However, she's up in class and will have speed to contend with, taking her out of her comfort zone. |
