Sadeke Brooks, Staff Reporter With a compilation that is extremely explicit, Truckback Records' Steve Locke has said the 'Sexx Tape' rhythm was done strictly for the underground market. The rhythm has songs such as Lady Saw's Mr Short Cummings and No Sucker, KipRich's Thief, Gyptian's All Night, Natalie Storm's Mi Too Good, Dejavu's Bend Over, Mr Lexx's Spread Out, Capleton's Charge and Black Dan's Come Wine. Speaking with THE STAR, Locke explained that the direction of the rhythm went was inspired by Dejavu's song. "The streets want sup'm raw. It did just tek off from deh so. So we decide fi just call it sup'm weh woulda grab the people's attention," he said, noting that it has been getting a lot of buzz on the Internet. However, Locke stressed that their focus has been on the underground market, and they have no intention of getting airplay. "We decide to not go radio. We just tek it to the streets and we trying to go underground. It's not like it haffi go radio. We can afford to run the risk like that. It is so funny that we doing all these radio things and it neva get the attention like what this get," Locke told THE STAR. "Lady Saw just come from Trinidad and she said she had to sing Mr Short Cummings bout three times, and she had to sing it right to the end," he added. So far, Locke said the record label has been promoting the rhythm heavily on the Internet, in clubs and dances. Based on the response so far, Locke said the rhythm is poised to do well, even without radio play. "It will still do well. A lot of radio people asking for the radio version but we a pree the streets. We haffi separate the thing a little bit. You have to have some kind of underground music," he said, noting that those who have access to the rhythm are discouraged from playing the songs around children. But this is not the only thing Truckback Records is doing. They have upcoming releases like a collaboration with Shaggy and Maxi Priest and another with artistes like Chevaughn, Chris Martin, D-Major and Iceman, which Locke said, "A di baddest thing since ackee and saltfish." He said they will also be releasing a one-drop rhythm, Seal Of Life'. |
