Men remanded in robbery case Two men who reportedly robbed a woman in broad daylight after trailing her from a bank were remanded when they appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday. They are Kevin Mattis, 32, of a Kingston 2 address and 22-year-old Jebar Williams of Kingston 3. Allegations are that sometime in March about 1:30 p.m., the complainant was walking along Orange Street in Kingston. Mattis, who was the passenger, jumped off the bike and grabbed a bag from the complainant with $50,000 and her belongings . The woman started to scream for help which arose the attention of the police and bystanders. He allegedly jumped back on the bike in a bid to escape, but the vehicle crashed and both men fell. Williams was held, however, Mattis ran. He was chased and held by persons who heard the distress cry. Both men were charged with simple larceny by Detective Corporal Kirk Roache.. While searching Williams, cellular phone videos of a child in school uniform having sex were found. Another with a child being beaten severely was also found. After an investigation, he was charged with breaches of the Child Pornography Act and the Child Care and Protection Act. Both men were remanded until May 9 for the larceny case. Williams is to reappear in court on April 17 on the Child Care and the Child Pornography Act breaches. - R.T. |
