'3 Cops raped me 30 yrs ago'

SHELDON WILLIAMS, Staff Reporter

A woman who says she was sodomised and brutally raped by three male police officers approximately 30 years ago is still seeking justice to bring closure to the ordeal she was forced to endure.

The woman, who is now in her 40s, says she is unable to have children because of internal injuries she received after the three cops took turns having anal, oral and vaginal sex with her before ejaculating in her face.

Catherine, who was moved to tears as she related her ordeal to THE STAR, reminisced about how safe she felt at first entering the police vehicle with the cops but little did she know that they would have raped her.

As she reached under her glasses to wipe the tears from her face, she explained how the three cops destroyed her chance at motherhood while she was still in high school.

She said that on the day she was returning from tennis practice, and had gone to a bus stop on Marescaux Road in the Corporate Area waiting to go home.

However, public transport was very difficult to come by that day as it was raining heavily and the streets were flooded.

She said the streets were also abandoned and she felt vulnerable as she was the only person standing at the bus stop.

Relieved

Moments later, she said she saw a police vehicle approaching and felt relieved and safe after it stopped.

According to her, one of the cops asked where she was going and she gave him her home address, and so he agreed to drive her home.

While journeying in the back seat of the service vehicle, she realised that the driver had taken a detour which led her to question where she was being taken.

She said he replied that he was taking a short cut to avoid some of the flooded roads on the route she was familiar with, so she gave them the benefit of the doubt.

However, she said that they did not take her home, but instead to downtown Kingston to the old railway station where she was told to exit the vehicle before being assaulted.

" Dem seh gal come out and then dem start argue. After dem done argue, dem shub me on the ground ... One of the officers pulled down my bloomers and had his way with me while one had a knife at my throat," Catherine recalled.

Furthermore, "... after that, the officer who had the knife at my throat seh him naw dabble weh you dabble inna and him turned me around and had anal sex with me," Catherine added.

Left alone

The cops later boarded their vehicle and drove away. After being left alone, she said she was assisted by a passerby who sought assistance from a nearby business place. The woman later covered her up with a sheet and took her home.

Catherine said she had to be hospitalised for weeks to undergo numerous medical procedures.

According to her, a report was made to the Admiral Town Police Station but her statement has apparently gone missing. After numerous follow-ups with the police, she said it seemed no urgency was being given to her complaint so she left it alone.

However, years later, Catherine received the shock of her life as her gynaecologist told her that she would have to do a hysterectomy as a result of the injuries she received from being raped.

When THE STAR spoke to a doctor who is familiar with Catherine's case, he confirmed the injuries she suffered and her present state due to the trauma she received as a teen.

Catherine now wants the matter to be thoroughly investigated because she still has nightmares about the ordeal and can still identify the faces of the cops who allegedly raped her.

Even though three decades have elapsed, if found, the offenders could still be prosecuted and imprisoned if convicted of the crimes against them.

Catherine has recently reported the matter to the Independent Commission of Investigations.
