Dolli - Contributed Super-talented dancehall recording artiste Dolli is splashing colour all over the local dancehall scene with her sassy good looks, outlandish sense of fashion and her off-the-hook lyrics. She has been getting mad props for Gangsta Girl, a bouncy single that plays on her stunning good looks and her hardcore image. "The song itself surprise me, the fans are saying it is a long time dem nuh hear a female artiste in Jamaica like this, addressing these kinda topics, that deal with real issues," she said in a release. A St Mary native, her sensational good looks propelled her into the glam world of modelling at age 17, not long after she left high school. At that time, she was represented by the Inner Beauty models from St Mary. However, she soon moved to Kingston in 2004 where "Music has always been my first love. My influences are Jah Cure, I listen to his music everyday, he is my main influence but I also rate Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Lady Saw and Tanya Stephens, and I want to make a mark like them," she said. Not long after relocating to Kingston, Dolli began her musical journey in 2006, writing songs inspired by her daily experiences and observations. She "I want to bring a difference to the industry in terms of style, lyrical content and my personality and in the message I am bringing. When you say Dolli, it promotes a certain pretty image, shallow and empty-headed, but I have depth in terms of lyrics to go along with my pretty girl image. Mi have whole heap a different sides, that's why I can say Gangsta Girl and it connect," she said. Dolli enjoys her 'pretty thug' image now established by the Gangsta Girl radio hit. The single, produced by Lee Miller on his LMP Production label, She plans to shoot the video for the single next week. "With God as my mentor, there are no boundaries for success. Dolli will soon be on the lips of everyone, the best is yet to come," she said confidently. And judging by the reaction to Gangsta Girl in the streets, there is no stopping this Dolli with a difference. |
