Tafari here to rebuild his father's legacy

Zambo Buchanan, son of reggae legend Big Youth, is confident that he can make a significant contribution to reggae music and build on the legacy his father has set.

The Florida-based artiste, who goes by the stage name Tafari, is upbeat by the possibilities of replicating the successes of his father in reggae music locally and internationally. The 31-year-old has recently released a new single titled Fire, which he believes is the right remedy to spark that claim.

"Fire is the song everyone is talking about now," the singer highlighted.

Tafari has made steady strides in music since he began as a teenager, but he's almost certain that the progress of his career will increase significantly once he has won over local supporters. "Jamaica is the reference centre for music. Not saying that if you don't get recognition elsewhere it counts for nothing but being a Jamaican I know here is the place. Furthermore, Jamaica is reggae and reggae is Jamaica," he said.

Tafari is now in the island promoting Fire EP, which is currently on ITunes US Top 200 chart since its release on February 26, 2012. The singer said he's confident that the public will embrace his music with warmth because it consists of messages anyone can relate to. The music video for Fire was directed by his bigger brother and reggae artiste Isat.

"I am very confident in my music and I am confident that the public will sense that confidence, which will subsequently draw them to my music," he added. Tafari also has his own independent label called Rud3 Music Recordings; a label which he predicts will be one to reckon with now and into the future.

"Rud3 Music is about quality production, which means quality music. In a few years from now the label will be a place desired by most artistes," he said.

Tafari believes the production has enough material to withstand any competition. Under his label the singer has released other singles such as Cloud 9, Money In My Pocket, Heartbeat of the City, Ain't No Stopping, Good Good and Big Youth's Not An Easy Road album, released last year.

Tafari's stage show experience is expansive as he has toured with his father Big Youth, appearing on gigs across the world. This he said has transcended into his music and will greatly affect, the heights of his success.
