Champs after-party rocks Chicken and Things

CURTIS CAMPBELL, STAR Writer

ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' championships concluded with celebrations right across the Corporate Area last Saturday, with the return of after-champs events.

One was at the Chicken and Things restaurant in Half-Way Tree. It was nothing short of youthful exuberance and Gaza music.

The dance floor was packed with young people at 11:30 p.m. when THE STAR entered. Those not buying chicken at the packed food station, were busy dancing up a storm.

DJ Energy played hip hop selections such as Ima Boss by Meek Mill, featuring Rick Ross, John by Lil Wayne and Rick Ross and House Party by Meek Mill.

The patrons loved the selections. Lil Wayne's How To Love had to be played more than once as the young ladies screamed and sang to the lines. The climax of the hip hop segment came when the DJ played DJ Khalid's All I Do Is Win. This song had to be played several times as the students attempted to outdo each other in an effort to enforce the point that the school they represented was a winner.

The DJ then switched to dancehall and what followed next was a stern segment of music from the Gaza camp.

It is no secret that Vybz Kartel is a familiar name among teens and as such DJ Energy gave them music from Popcaan, Vybz Kartel and Tommy Lee.

Songs such as Clean, So Bad, Naughty Girl and Only Man She Want by Popcaan had the patrons in a frenzy, and they tooted their horns and danced to the selection.

Some Bwoy by Tommy Lee also had a group of boys dressed in Kingston College attire doing the comedic Wounded Dog dance move.

The DJ also received good responses from the audience when he played Vybz Kartel's The Best Of Them and Freaky Gyal.

There were no visible signs of segregation as the patrons gyrated on each other to each selection, which were notably edited and free of explicit content.
