Champs supporters flock soca party

There was endless dancing to close off the Island Mas Jamaica's Soca Village series at Village Blues Bar in St Andrew, but there weren't many patrons to join in on the fun.

About 12:30 a.m. after Champs final night, the event did not seem like much of a grand finale, as the small venue was near empty. Of the small number of patrons that were present, the majority were wearing colours from the schools they supported in the Issa/ GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Championships.

Meanwhile, Richie Ras played songs like Patrice Roberts' Tempa Wine and Faye-Ann Lyons' Heavy T Bumpa. Patrons got busy when they heard Lil Rick's Go Dung and Skinny Fabulous' 6:30. There was no one rolling on the ground but patrons got wild when they heard Faye-Ann Lyon's Miss Behave and they were 'charged up' for Skinny Fabulous' Duracel. One of the hits for the night was Swappi's Bucket that received 'gun salutes', shouts, jumps, and even a pull up, while patrons danced and sang along to the track.

DJ Billy joined in on the excitement and played Buju Banton's Champion on a soca rhythm. Kerwin Du Bois' Bacchanalist was a favourite and by now, more patrons had come to the venue. A dub version of Konshens' Gal Dem A Talk on a soca beat was well received and so too was Bunji Garlin's Irregular. The selector found favour with the patrons when he mixed Rihanna's We Found Love and Vybz Kartel's Tek.

With more people dancing, more vodka shots were being offered to the women. The dancing seemed to increase with older songs like Allison Hinds' Togetherness and Maximus Dan's Soca Warrior.

When Richie Ras returned, he truly entertained patrons when he played Konshens' Gal A Bubble and a few other dancehall songs. Throughout the rest of the party, patrons raved to other soca songs like Machel Montano's Bend Ova and Kes the Band's Wotless.
