A 53-year-old single father is desperately appealing to the public for financial help with his six children.

He is Desmond Rainford of Bendon district, in Kitson Town, St Catherine.

"Fi tell you di truth, I try to do a little ting here and there but nothing not happening. Not even dinner I have to give di children dem. Most times I have to go on di street to beg tings from people," Rainford told THE STAR.

THE STAR understands that the mother of the six children, who Rainford is taking care of, died due to gun violence in 2011.

When THE STAR visited Rainford at his home yesterday, our news team caught up with only four of his children.

He reasoned with THE STAR that he is a builder by profession, however, he has been out of a full-time job for sometime now.

"I use to live with mi kids on March Pen Road, in Spanish Town, but after dem kill mi children dem mother, I move to Bendon district to live at mi mother house," Rainford told THE STAR.

However, Rainford said that after the death of his children's mother in 2011, he had another major setback with the death of his mother this year.

"My mother use to help me when she was alive but she died at di age of 86. I need help for my youth dem, because right now, food is di greatest ting. Me also need a job, so mi can support mi kids. It is only me alone mi kids dem have because I have to wash, cook and clean for dem. Right now, di two older boys, 14 and 15-year-old, are going school and di rest of di kids go to school every now and again," Rainford said.

Rainford also told THE STAR that he has no one to turn to as he said that attempts to get any form of assistance from the Child Development Agency have been futile.

Meanwhile, Garth Dixon, a well known taxi-operator from the area, who brought Rainford's story to our attention has reasoned that Rainford is desperately in need of help with his six children.

According to Dixon, "I have known this man for years and he is trying with the children, but he is really in need of help. The public need to hear this single father's story," he said.

Desmond Rainford, who is without a bank account number, is asking anyone who is willing to assist him, to contact him at telephone no: 566-3105.
