Edwin Allen and Kingston College continued their march to top honours at the 102nd staging of the VMBS ISSA Boys and Girls' Championships as they maintained their early momentum at the end of the second day. Edwin Allen, who are on course to dethrone nine-time champions Holmwood Technical, picked up two more wins yesterday through Danniel Thomas in the shot put open and Claudette Allen in the girls' Class II long jump. Thomas erased St Jago High's Kellion Knibb one-year-old record of 13.64 metres, with a record throw of 14.47 metres. Holmwood Technical's Gleneive Grange (13.74) and Knibb (13.52) finished second and third, respectively. Edwin Allen also picked up more quality points with Sasha-Gaye Marston fourth with 12.80 metres. Class II jumper Claudette Allen picked up another win for Edwin Allen as she captured the girls Class II long jump with a winning leap of 6.02 metres. Vere Technical's Shardia Lawrence finished second, with a leap of 5.81 metres, while Holmwood's Tamara Moncreiffe took bronze with 5.80 metres. Former champions Vere Technical picked up their second win of the meet in the girls Class IV long jump as Abigail Swaby maintained her excellent form this season soaring to 5.46 metres for gold. Hydel's Osheca Barnes (5.03) and D'andra Morris (5.00) of St Andrew High took silver and bronze, respectively. Kingston College also had another good day yesterday, picking up crucial points as they picked up two wins through Sammawi Welington in the Class III long jump and Xavier Boland in the pole vault open. Wellington won his event with a 1.75 clearance to get the better of Calabar's Javier Lowe (1.75) and Wellington's teammate Luke Walters finished third, also clearing 1.75 metres. Boland's winning clearance in the pole vault was 4.20 metres, with Jamaica College's Hugh Lewis taking the silver with 4.00 metres and Wolmer's Boy's Demetri Mitchell taking the bronze also with a mark of 4.00 metres. Calabar High picked up a win yesterday as World Youth discus champion Federick Dacres and his teammate Ashinia Miller gave their team some hope of winning the title by taking the quinella in the event. Dacres won with 60.43 metres, Miller (56.46) and Chadrick DaCosta of Kingston College(54.15) metres picked up silver and bronze, respectively. Kingston College's Darren Hunter won the decathlon with 6107, while Waquar Larrington of St Jago was second 6017 and third was Andre McFarlane of Jamaica College with 5868.
