Portals, Hellshire book semis spots

East Portmore Portals and Hellshire United booked semi-final spots after victories over Braeton United and Daytona in their final preliminary-round games in the LIME Portmore Division two football league last Sunday.

In the game at Westchester, East Portmore Portals took third spot after they defeated Braeton United 3-1. They were aided by a brace from Keino Walker, which brought his personal tally to 10 goals for the season. Portals received an early blow as they were reduced to 10 men when McKinley was shown the red card in the 13th minute.

Penalty spot

Michael Rodney scored moments later to give Braeton the lead. However, Portals striker, Walker, brought his team level in the 39th minute from the penalty spot. Walker won the penalty after he was cut down in the box. Walker and Shamir Rall also netted in the second half to hand them the vital points. Portals finished with 22 points, the same as Westport; but a superior goal difference placed them third in preliminary round. Westchester booted Daytona from the competition with a 2-0 win in the opening game at the venue as Dane Thomas netted a brace. Westchester topped the prelims with 29 points.

Meanwhile, Hellshire United wrapped up second place with 24 points after they defeated Westport 3-1 at the Passagefort field. Rohan Cato scored a double, while Rohan Grant netted the other goal. The semi-finals are scheduled for Sunday, April 1.
