Local gov't candidate hopes to forge partnership with the church if elected |

Portmore resident Fenley Douglas, a candidate in the local government elections in Portmore, St Catherine, said if elected he hopes to work in conjunction with, church. Douglas will be representing the Waterford division in the upcoming local government elections. "I am seeing each day that the churches are helping many. Therefore, I am forging a partnership with them for the growth in the division," he said Douglas, who is set to follow the legacy left by veteran councillor Errol Lynch, said he is able to help the division grow. Lynch, who represented Waterford division for 20 years, gave his blessings to Douglas. Douglas said has been affiliated with politics for sometime. However, this is his first attempt at representational politics. He told The Portmore Star that for the residents to be empowered he is going to tackle them. "The division has a great number of unemployed youth. So, in addition to the spiritual side, there will an emphasis to get a training centre in operation," Douglas said. The way forward he said is to represent the division as a member of the municipality. "While I am member of the People's National Party, there is a bigger calling of representation, therefore, all will benefit," he said. Persons who spoke to the Portmore Starsaid Douglas has good intentions and It is hoped he and any other elected representatives will improve the standard of the community. - R.T. |
