Inmate beaten for 'Easing Body'

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

Three men who allegedly beat a man after he reportedly eased his body in a cell at a lock-up will know their fate next month when the matter will again be mentioned in court.

The men are Ryan Chambers 19, Miguel Beecher 20, and 22-year-old Germaine Sill, all of St Catherine addresses.

When the case was mentioned, one of the accused told the court that he cooked crackers porridge.

"Your honour is me alone beat him after mi cook mi porridge and him ease him body. Your honour me ask him why him do it and him sey him a big man," Chambers told the court.

The accused said that was when he and the complainant started to fight and the others tried to separate them.

Chambers also told the court that he normally cooks porridge in the cells using plastic bag with water.

"Do you mean that you are able to cook inside the lock-ups? I will have to ask the police to prevent cooking in the jail," Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green said.

The complainant, however, told the court that the men were not telling the truth.

Allegations before the court are that on February 24, all four men were in a cell at the Portmore lock-ups when the complainant who is charged with a sexual act,was told "yu can't tan in ya." The men then attacked him and took turns kicking and punching him all over his body.

A report was made to the police and they were charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, respectively.

They are to return to court on April 24.
