The police are yet to charge the two persons who were picked up over the weekend in connection with the robbery and murder of a man in Rock Hall, St Andrew, on Friday. Up to press time last night, checks made by THE STAR with the police revealed that the men remain in police custody. Their identities are being withheld pending further investigations. It is reported that an AK-47 rifle loaded with twenty-nine, 7.62 rounds was seized from the suspects and a plastic bag containing 13 similar rounds. According to reports from the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), the two were caught just minutes after the incident in Bog Walk, St Catherine. The other two suspects escaped. The two persons, a male and female were held about 3:30 Friday afternoon after the Nissan Caravan motor truck in which they were travelling was intercepted by the police at the intersection of Sligoville and Pleasant Hill in St Catherine. The incident occurred just minutes after they reportedly robbed and shot 27-year-old Howard Byfield of First Bamboo Way in Sligoville at a business establishment in Rock Hall. He was later pronounced dead at hospital. The driver of the Nissan motor truck reportedly crashed into the police service vehicle. He received multiple injuries and was admitted to hospital under police guard. The Major Investigations Task Force is investigating. |
