Cops probe fisherman's death |

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer Investigations are under way to ascertain if a collision with another boat may have resulted in the death of a fisherman on Sunday. Dead is Albert Lawrence, 40 years old of Port Henderson Road, Portmore, St Catherine. It reported that about 11 p.m. on Saturday, Lawrence and a colleague were in a boat in Hellshire, St Catherine. Their boat was reportedly hit by another vessel and capsized. The Marine police are contending the men were caught fishing in the ship's channel when the incident reportedly occurred. It is reported that after the boat was hit, Lawrence got into difficulty. All attempts to save him proved futile. The other fisherman was rescued by the police, interviewed and released. "Mi see when the boat hit and him go down. Mi try save him, but him go under," Christopher Scotland, a fisherman, said. He said the fact that Lawrence did not make it hurt him deeply. The Bridgeport police confirmed that a report has been made and an investigation is under way. Meanwhile, Councillor Alrick Campbell of the Edgewater division was among persons expressing concern about the incident. |
