Two plead not guilty to assault |

|
Two accused persons who allegedly watched a group of men beat the relative of a tenant had their bails extended when the appeared in court on Friday. Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and assault at common-law are Shauna-Gaye Muirhead and Glenton Stewart. When they appeared before Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green both pleaded not guilty. The court was told that the medical certificate was still outstanding. As a result, the court ordered they be fingerprinted and return on April 25. Allegations are that Stewart accompanied Muirhead to a house she owns in Eltham Acres, St Catherine. The complainant, who is said to be the brother of the tenant, was seen sweeping the yard. He was reportedly approached by Stewart who asked "yu live ya so?" He was said to have incited a group of men to assault the complainant. The complainant was beaten by the men who declared "him sweep dirt pon di boss" As a result of the assault, the man suffered swelling and bruises. An investigation by corporal Jerome Walters of the Spanish Town police station resulted in criminal charges against the accused. - R.T. |
