Foota Hype's birthnight celebration hosted at the Limelight nightclub on Friday was a success. The event was supported by various celebrities from the music industry, who all came to show their respect for the outspoken disc jock. The STAR arrived at a well- decorated venue at 3 a.m., after being thoroughly searched by the no-nonsense police officers at the gate. The Lover's Choice sound was at the helm of the turntables, and their DJs were all about business as they fed patrons with some good music. "Big up Foota Hype, yu dun know sey anything wi duh wi haffi put God in it," the DJ said. He then played Sizzla's Solid As A Rock, before finding Jah Cure and Fantan Mojah's Nuh Build Great Man and Buju Banton's Destiny. "All who know sey dem naah get rich and mek dem friend suffer," the DJ yelled, again receiving much approval from the audience. What followed these selections was a solid hour of reggae music, and the patrons seemed to enjoy every moment. Alliance artistes K Queens were among those in attendance, and according to the twins, it was a great feeling to support their team member Foota Hype. "It's a great feeling to be here tonight. Foota has been one of the DJs that help to build dancehall, and we also support him as a fellow member of the Alliance family," they said. Stacy of Dance Xpressionz also commented on the occasion. "Foota Hype is one of the hottest selectors in the streets, always giving strength to artiste and dancers, so we support him in return," she said. Homage was also paid to the late mother of Bounty Killer, Miss Ivy, and slain dancehall artiste Coppa Cat. The DJ played Bugle's Pearly Gates and I-Octane's Lose A Friend, and the response was resounding. Perhaps the climax of the night came during the playing of Damian Marley's Affairs Of The Heart. This song had members of the audience in a trance as they continuously paid the DJ to put the song on repeat. Foota Hype's girlfriend Ishawna, was compelled to express herself during the song, and she was given the chance by the DJ who paused the song and gave her the opportunity to say her piece. "Big up mi one and only babyfather Foota Hype, you are my baby mwah. I love you baby, dem a try but dem cyah get you out," Ishawna said. DJ Chunkey was next on the turntables and played some hard-core dancehall songs, among them Black Ryno's Real Stingers. DJ Foota Hype also played some songs on his special night, and also took the opportunity to give patrons an insight into his past, as well as shower praises on his girlfriend Ishawna. "Mi use to deh a Cassava Piece a suffa, mi use to have to do the house chores and mek sure sey mi siblings dem guh school. Den mi guh studio and mek the artiste dem send mi out; but I have always wanted more, so I never stopped until I was a star in my own right, because I did not plan to be a send-out boy forever," he said. Patrons then continued to party and celebrate with Foota Hype right throughout the night. |
