A man who allegedly burned his wife with a clothes iron on one of her breasts and one of arms causing her to be hospitalised will return to court in April after it was revealed that the medical report was still outstanding. Alphanso Barrett, of a Corporate Area address, was brought before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday to answer to charges of assault occasioning bodily harm. The court heard that on February 28, Barrett and his wife were involved in a dispute when a clothes iron was reportedly used to inflict severe burn wounds to one of herbreasts and one of her arms which landed her in the hospital. Barrett also suffered burnt wounds from the clothes iron during the dispute. When the matter came up for mention on Wednesday, Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey asked whether Barrett was of unsound mind as his behaviour while she spoke to him necessitated that question. Barrett's attorney said he suffered from high blood pressure and a heart condition, which appears to give him a tick. It was further revealed that the complainant wanted to drop to drop the charges. Senior RM Judith Pusey then told the attorney that that decision was not for Barrett's wife to make. When the matter returned on Thursday, it was revealed that the medical report was outstanding and the case was adjourned until early April. |
