Two men who pleaded guilty to breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act were fined and sent to prison for their action yesterday. Both men, 35-year-old Rory Brown of Portsmouth, St Catherine, and 29-year-old Navado Bartley of Ocho Rios, St Ann, were convicted of possession of ganja; dealing in ganja; trafficking ganja and conspiracy to traffic ganja When they appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court, they pleaded guilty to the offences. It was, however, explained to the court that both accused men went to Spring Break in Negril, Westmoreland. While there, they bought the drug to try some 'hustling'. Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green told them ganja was illegal before handed down the sentence. They were each fined $140,000 in total and sentenced to three months' imprisonment. The men were not represented when they appeared. It was outlined that both men were stopped by the police in Bog Walk, St Catherine. During a search, ganja weighing six pounds was found in their possession. They were subsequently arrested and charged for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act. -R.T. |
