Reggae singer Sophia Brown left Jamaica yesterday for several show dates in South America. Brown will be performing as the main act on the Latin American leg of the Rototom Sunsplash Band Contest.

Rototom Sunsplash is an annual music festival held in Spain. The best bands are selected from each continent to participate in the festival that this year is expected to run from August 16-22.

The Latin American leg of the eliminations will begin this week with Brown slated to perform on March 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19. Fiona Williams, who has connections with the festival, said she chose Brown to perform as it would expose her to a brand new market which she has the ability to break into. The singer follows in footsteps of Etana, who performed on the Latin American leg of the eliminations last year.

An elated Brown said she hopes to make the best use of the opportunity. "With the new album Catch Me If You Can coming out, it gives me a chance to expose Latin America to it and to the old one Spotlight as well," she said.

Brown said that if the traffic on her website is anything to go by, her trip to Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Brazil is being eagerly anticipated and she doesn't plan to disappoint. "I go to do my best and I hope the fans will enjoy my performances," she said.

Brown returns to Jamaica on March 20, just a week before her album launch in Kingston. "I am really looking forward to that. I am excited about the album. The first album exposed me to the world so with this one being highly anticipated, even though I am tired, I am very excited."
