Senior superintendent pleads guilty

Senior Superintendent of Police, Assan Thompson, who is accused of breaching the Corruption Prevention Act, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Thompson who is being represented by attorney K.D. Knight will return to court on April 10.

It is alleged that Thompson failed to provide the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption with a quantity surveyor's report for a property on Karachi Avenue, St Andrew.

Under the law, public servants are required to declare their assets and liabilities annually.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent Anthony Castelle, who heads the St Catherine North Division, also appeared before the court and was fined $25,000 in total on five counts of breaching the Corruption Prevention Act.

At the same time, three other counts brought against him were admonished and discharged.

He is accused of failing to file declarations for the years 2003 to 2010.
