ISTANBUL, Turkey:

With her IAAF World Indoor Championships 60 metres title defence safely secured, Jamaican sprinter Veronica Campbell-Brown has already turned her attention to this summer's Olympic Games in London.

Campbell-Brown, powered to a world-leading 7.01 seconds win in Istanbul on Sunday evening to become the first Jamaican to win consecutive 60m titles at the IAAF World Indoor Championships after her victory in Doha two years ago.

title-defending ways

However, Campbell-Brown is now looking to continue her title-defending ways, first at the national senior trials and then in London later this year. She has won the last two Olympic gold medals in the women's 200 metres.

"This is a step in the right direction," said Campbell-Brown of her win. "As you know the trials are in June and that is where everybody will have to make the team or secure their spots for London. So the objective is to go back to training, work hard and look forward to the trials and the rest of the season."

Campbell-Brown was of course thrilled for her win in Istanbul.

"I am grateful for the victory, I wanted to come out here and do my best and I think I did that after successfully defending my title here," she told STAR Sports. "It's a blessing. I have been in track and field for a long time and the Lord continues to sustain me and help me to do well, I'm extremely grateful.

prayers

"I just want to ask all my fans and supporters to continue to give me their support and to keep me in their prayers. I wasn't worried too much about the time because execution is the thing that always transfers into a good time and I am indeed just grateful for the victory," she added.

Also in the final, Aleen Bailey finished in seventh place with a time of 7.24 but took heart from her effort and is now looking forward to the outdoor season.

"I am happy with what I did today and I am just happy that I was able to come her and make the final," said Bailey. "I have a few things to work on such as my first 30m before the start of the outdoor season though."

The silver medal in the event went to Côte d'Ivoire's Murielle Ahoure in 7.04 while American Tianna Madison was third in 7.09.

Richard Phillips had to pull out of the men's 60m hurdles semi-finals after suffering a groin injury during warm-up.
