Classy Arnett win 2-1

Arnett Gardens' coach Paul 'Tegat' Davis has described Monday's come-from-behind 2-1 win over Waterhouse as their best Red Stripe Premier League game of the season. The match was played at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in Arnett Gardens.

The victory lifted Arnett from ninth to eighth in the standings on 35 points, a point ahead of Sporting Central Academy. Waterhouse remained third in the standings with 44 points, 13 behind runaway leaders Portmore United. Kemar Brown (29th) and Kirk Ramsey (35th) were the scorers for Arnett. Jermaine Anderson had put Waterhouse ahead in the 10th minute.

"I think this is one of the best football games that we have played in a long while because I think that spectators really enjoyed it, and I am just happy that we came out victorious," said Davis.

Waterhouse came out firing early and were close to scoring in the ninth minute but Hughan Gray's 30-yard shot was spectacularly saved by custodian Damion Hyatt as he dived to his left to turn the ball away for a corner. Anderson, however, arrived at the near post to head home the corner kick past Hyatt, much to the delight of their small group of supporters.

The home side gradually settled down and dominated the latter part of the first period. They were rewarded when Brown headed home the equaliser before Ramsey put his team ahead six minutes later. Ramsay went clear after being played through by Rohan Reid and he sent a powerful shot into the roof of the Waterhouse net.

"When we were down 1-0, my players never gave up, and we continued to fight, hence we were able to get all three points," said Davis.

Donovan Duckie, coach of Waterhouse, said the defeat was a big setback in their quest to win the competition.

"It is a big blow for us," said Duckie. "Three points should have been the order of the day for us, but it is not over yet. We still have nine games left in the competition, and that is 27 points. We also have (leaders) Portmore to play twice."
