'No room for complacency'

Jamaica's cricket captain Tamar Lambert insists there is no room for complacency, as the team prepares to face rivals Trinidad and Tobago in the WICB Regional Four-day championship, having already booked a place in the semi-finals of the competition in dominating fashion.

The Jamaicans have won all four matches played and sit atop the table with 48 points, 20 ahead of second-place Trinidad and Tobago. However, the skipper says the team remains hungry for success and is looking forward to the encounter. The team is seeking a record fifth straight hold on the regional trophy.

"Before a ball had been bowled, our motivation was that we wanted to win five straight, so I don't think this team will take anything for granted," Lambert told STAR Sports, as the team prepared to depart the island for the twin-island republic yesterday.

"We know we have a job to do, and this is another opportunity to prove that we are worthy champions."

With key players Darren Bravo, Dwayne Bravo, Denesh Ramdin and Sunil Narine called up to the regional squad ahead of the first of three Digicel one-day internationals against Australia, Trinidad may well be short on firepower, but Lambert expects a competitive game nonetheless.

"It is always a good game between Trinidad and us over the years. I expect nothing different this time around. They will be missing some key players, but whatever team Trinidad puts out is always going to be competitive," Lambert said.

However, there will also be added incentive to securing maximum points against Trinidad and Tobago for Jamaica, as the top two teams at the end of the preliminary phase will secure home advantage for the semi-finals. Barbados and Guyana are currently third and fourth, tied on 24 points.

"If you know this team, you will know that we have a lot of hungry players that want to do well and we want to win every match that we play. We won't even think about the semi-finals, we just want to go out and play good cricket."

Jamaica squad: Tamar Lambert, (captain), Jamie Merchant, Donovan Pagon, Brenton Parchment, Simon Jackson, Brendan Nash, David Bernard Jr, Carlton Baugh Jr, Nikita Miller, Odean Brown, Andrew Richardson, Sheldon Cotterell, Jermaine Blackwood.
