The tally of illegal firearms that have been removed from the nation's streets increased by one on Sunday night, following a seizure by the Discovery Bay police in St Ann.

Information received is that about 9:10 p.m., an off-duty officer was driving along Dairy Road in the parish when he saw a man walking along the roadway with a bulge at his waist.

He attempted to accost the man, who ran leaving behind an object. The object was retrieved and found to be a 9 mm Smith and Wesson pistol, with serial number A854136, which was loaded with a magazine containing four 9mm rounds.

Investigations are ongoing.
