Under-20 Girlz dreams crushed

Jamaica's Reggae Girlz were eliminated from the CONCACAF Under-20 women's qualifiers, following a 2-0 loss to Canada, at the Romel Fernandez Stadium on Saturday night, in Panama.

The loss was the second for the national team in as many games, following a 3-1 loss to Mexico in their opening encounter last Thursday. Jenna Richardson and Catherine Charron-Delage both found the back of the net for the Canadians, who advanced to the semi-finals. Mexico destroyed Haiti 10-0 in the day's other encounter

Richardson picked up the ball from defender Christine Exeter before firing a low shot from the top of the box to score in the 76th minute on Jamaican custodian Taylor Grant.

Six minutes later Exeter also played a big part in the second collecting a pass from a corner and playing it into the path of Charron-Delage who put Canada 2-0.

Charron-Delage, who came off the bench in the 46th minute, now has three goals in two games while Richardson's goal was her second of the tournament.

Canada's next match is today against Mexico.

The top three teams in the eight-country regional qualifier will advance to the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup set for August 18 to September 8 in Japan.

CONCACAF covers North and Central America and the Caribbean.

The Canadian women are in Group A, along with Haiti, Mexico and Jamaica. Group B comprises Cuba, Guatemala, Panama and the United States.
