No leads in cop-shooting incident

Up to late yesterday, police said they had made no arrest in connection with the shooting of one of their colleagues on Saturday.

A special sergeant attached to Harman Barracks in Kingston was shot and injured on Waltham Park Road, Kingston 11, on Saturday afternoon.

The Hunts Bay police had reported that about 12:05 p.m., the special sergeant was among a team of police officers conducting a vehicle check point operation in the area, when a taxi operator sought their assistance in settling a dispute between himself and a passenger.

The police were reportedly attempting to accost the man, when he opened fire, hitting the special sergeant.

Police said the injured cop was assisted to hospital, where he has been admitted in stable condition. The culprit escaped.

The Hunts Bay police said no breakthrough has been made into the matter but investigations are continuing. The police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have information as to the whereabouts of the culprit to contact them at 923-7111, Crime Stop at 311, Police 119 emergency number, or the nearest police station.
