Ergasia too hot to handle |

ERGASIA will have to be caught at a mile tomorrow after his big 1:40.3 at the distance on February 22, beating super-fit LIKKLE BIT by a three and a quarter lengths in a truly run race. Quietly fancied at 7-2 with leading jockey Dane Nelson aboard, ERGASIA obviously relished the removal of the visor and flew out of the gate with Nelson to land the gamble for trainer George Moo-Young. The five-year-old gelding shook off challenges from CAJUN FIDDLER, GHOST RAPPER, INVICTUS and LIKKLE BIT down the backstretch and into the lane where he stayed on strongly under Nelson to post a fast mile. Returning seven pounds lighter and perfectly drawn against the rail, ERGASIA should again call school early on LIKKLE BIT, who remains at 57.0 kilos, the same weight he carried when beaten by more than three lengths at the distance on February 22. Moo-Young did the sensible thing to summon claiming Ansel Dancel to partner ERGASIA, ensuring the gelding returns lighter for the rematch LIKKLE BIT and a possible quicker pace. AWESOME MARQUE, MOJITO JAM, PRINCESS AMOYA and DR DEVIOUS are the likely horses to be in the pace. However, should ERGASIA pour it on like he did last time out, posting 1:13.0 for the three-quarter mile split, they should all be spitting their bits. Take a cue from the fact that LIKKLE BIT, who ERGASIA trounced on February 22, beat almost every horse in the field in his two previous races. Form players should cash in on the first four races with WINCHESTER, DOUBLE BUTTON, NOON IT IS and CRUISER. WINCHESTER has been enjoying good form since returning off a six-month break in January. MR SKILL was just too speedy at 1100 metres for the Richard Azan-trained colt last Saturday but WINCHESTER still ran big, beaten by two and three quarter lengths in a fast 1:06.4. WINCHESTER's main threat SIR SOUTH should be WINCHESTER's main threat but he could get left behind in the early fractions at 1100 metres, leaving him with too much to do up the lane against WINCHESTER with strong Omar Walker aboard. TRADITIONAL PRINCE wasn't all that impressive when beating JUSTIN ON FIRE on February 18 and should find the pair of WINCHESATER and SIR SOUTH tougher rivals. Despite finishing outside the frame on debut, Philip Feanny's HOWGREATTHOUARE still has many fans in the second event at 1200 metres. However, Gordon Lewis' DOUBLE BUTTON, who came flying at UPPA TUNE in that same race, gets the nod over Feanny's runner. HOWGREATTHOUARE was slowly away and also suffered some traffic problem leaving the three pole in the five and a half furlong race. However, he was still ahead of DOUBLE BUTTON entering the straight and clearly weakened a furlong out while Lewis' filly was finding her best stride. With the distance increased by a half furlong, DOUBLE BUTTON must get the nod. NOON IT IS is a cinch with Walker in the third at 1300 metres and CRUISER should get the better of PASADOBLE at a mile in the fourth. |
