Three accused of extortion remanded

A police constable who was one of three men accused of extorting money from a store owner on Valentine's Day was remanded in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday until March 8 for trial.

Charged with extortion are Liston Tenant, Colin Cowell, and Sean Linton.

An unsuccessful application for bail was made by Michael Deans, even though he assured the court that his clients would adhere to the strictest of bail conditions and would be willing to report to the police regularly.

The Crown is alleging that on February 14 all three went to the Liguanea Post Mall and entered into a fashion store where they accused the store owner of selling knock off goods.

The men then allegedly demanded $30,000 from the store owner who paid them out of fear.

All three were later picked up by the police after the complainant reported the matter.
